WASHINGTON (TND) — A suspected drunk driver was arrested by police in Colorado after trying to switch places with his dog during a traffic stop.
The Springfield Police Department said as the officer approached the vehicle they watched the entire process before the man got out of the passenger side and claimed he was not driving.
Police added the man was showing clear signs of intoxication and when asked about his alcohol consumption ran from the officer.
The man was apprehended shortly after and officers said they discovered the man got lost while driving. He was also found to have two active warrants for his arrest out of Pueblo.
After the man was medically cleared at a hospital he was booked into the Baca County Jail for his warrants and also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving while ability impaired, driving under suspension, speeding 20-24 over and resisting arrest.
The dog was given to an acquaintance of the driver to take care of while the man is in jail, police said.
Officers added the dog does not face any charges and was let go with just a warning.
